Today
we have many ways to get information quickly. We can access the Internet,
consult a book in library, or even just call experts on the phone. But
to the miners at the turn of the last century they had to rely on each
other and small portable books that contained only basic information.
Study
the cover and contents page of the miners
manual: Gold Dust: How to Find It and How to Mine It. When was it published?
How useful do you think a book like this would be? Read pages 2,3,4. Describe
the author's writing style. How easy do you think it would be
to follow the directions?
